Founding executive member and prime sponsor of the Assante CBS Junior Renegades Hockey Club Ernie Johnson was recently inducted into the Town of CBS Sports Hall of Fame. Ernie, who helped bring the team into the St. John’s Junior Hockey League in 2010, also sponsors the team’s annual Assante Rookie of the Year Award, outfits new players with team jackets every season, and personally ensures every home game has a printed game-day booklet. Before getting involved with the Junior team, Ernie coached and sponsored several house league teams in the CBRMHA since 2000, and was involved in organizing sports teams in Yellowknife and Frobisher Bay. In his role as school principal there, he also helped build culturally inclusive curriculum for Indigenous youth in northern communities.
Ernie was one of four deserving individuals inducted into the Town of CBS Sports Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Ernie, and congrats to rugby star Ciaran Hearn, hockey developer Anthony Goobie, and pitching ace Don Hillier, who were all inducted into the Hall recently.
